Experiential Learning

“During the academic terms students take bi-weekly field trips to acquaint them with life outside

the classroom and provide an opportunity for two-person teams to develop their skills at self-generated observation, hypothesis making, testing of assumptions, and generalizing implications. Sites for field reports have included a plastic bag factory, a rubber estate, mangroves along the Yangon River, rice paddies ready to harvest.”

“Also during the academic terms students give half a day of service each week with NGOs.”

How do the Graduates Make it to College?

During the high noon of dictatorship the graduates of the program provided a unique dimension of the diversity that most US colleges seek – applicants from the current world’s longest running military dictatorship. In recent years they have shifted to the status of potential leaders who can make a difference in a budding democracy. The prior experience of the founders and the record of the earlier waves of graduates at particular colleges give credibility to the college applications of current students. Consequently, at colleges with average freshman SAT Verbal plus Math scores of 1200 and above, Pre-Collegiate Program applicants punch above their SAT weight in competition for admission.
